Rivers of Life, Romania...No Longer Forsaken!

Illiteracy conquered for new generation in Gusterita!
“At risk” young adults become success stories, not sad statistics!

“The poor and needy are seeking water when there is none, their tongues are parched with thirst. I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of valleys…” Isa. 41:17,18 Amplified

In 2001, Rivers of Life opened a Christian literacy school in Sibiu, Romania, for disadvantaged teens who had never been able to enter a public school. Now 55 of those students have learned to read and write and graduated from 4th grade in our school, receiving diplomas through our collaboration with public school 25.

Most amazing, however, are the dramatic changes God has wrought in the lives of many who were formerly street fighters, drunkards, and thieves, through their receiving a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Now their faces are soft and full of joy. They hear God speaking and preach powerful sermons. Their lives have been transformed by His presence in their hearts.

Our city, Sibiu, was named the European cultural capitol for 2007. In 1996, I heard God speak that Romania would someday be a light to all of Europe. Many of our 55 graduates will, I believe, play important roles in this. However, right now their biggest need is a way to earn a living. We are asking for ideas and capital to start a business for them so that they can support their own families with dignity.
